    • PERFORMED ROAD TEST TO VERIFY CUSTOMERS CONCERN OF GRINDING NOISE ON ACCELERATION. TECH CONFIRMED THE CONCERN AND NOTATES THAT THIS VEHICLE AT THIS TIME IS UNSAFE TO OPERATE ON THE ROAD AS IT CAN LOCK UP THE FRONT AXLES AND CAUSE SEVERE DAMAGE TO VEHICLE AND/OR PERSONS. PUT VEHICLE IN THE AIR AND HAD SECOND TECHNICIAN OPERATE THE ACCELERATOR AND TRANSMISSION WHILE TECHNICIANS UNDERNEATH EXAMINED CAUSE OF NOISE AND IT WAS FOUND THAT THE FRONT POWER TRANSFER UNIT HAS INTERNALLY FAILED AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. THERE ARE SIGNS THAT THE PTU SHAFT HAS BEEN LEAKING AND THERE MAY NOT BE ENOUGH SUFFICIENT LUBRICATION CAUSING PREMATURE COMPONENT FAILURE. TO PINPOINT THE EXACT REASON UNIT FAILED, THE UNIT ITSELF WOULD HAVE TO BE DISASSEMBLED. RECOMMEND REPLACING FRONT POWER TRANSFER UNIT AND REQUIRED HARDWARE AND REASSESS AFTER REPAIRS ARE MADE. CONFIRMED CUSTOMER CONCERN OF GRINDING NOISES FROM FRONT END. UPDATE: REMOVED OLD PTU, FILLED NEW PTU WITH FLUID AND INSTALLED PTU. TEST DROVE VEHICLE; CONCERN AND NOISES ARE NO LONGER PRESENT.
    • Tech removed old PTU and replaced it with a new factory PTU and added correct level of fluid. Tech test drove vehicle and there is no longer a noise and the wheels don't act like they want to lock up anymore.
